Norman, Oklahoma Tornado Leaves Destruction in Its Wake
At Least 80 Homes Destroyed or Damaged
Emergency Agencies Locate and Assist Residents
Norman, Oklahoma - April 28, 2024 - A devastating tornado tore through Norman, Oklahoma, on Tuesday, April 28, 2024, leaving behind widespread destruction.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the tornado touched down near Cole Road and moved through the city, damaging or destroying at least 80 homes, businesses, and vehicles.
Emergency agencies are currently working to locate and assist residents who have been impacted by the tornado. Shelters have been established at the following locations:
- Norman North High School
- Norman High School
- Kennedy Recreation Center
Residents who are able to return to their homes are advised to do so cautiously and to be aware of potential hazards, such as downed power lines and broken glass.
The city of Norman is working with FEMA and other agencies to provide assistance to those affected by the tornado. A disaster recovery center will be opened at the Norman Public Library on Thursday, April 29, 2024.
